Driving Question: How can sharing the stories and challenges of local business owners inspire empathy and action in our community?
Project Overview: Community Connectors is an engaging project that brings 3rd-grade students into the heart of their local economy. Students will learn the importance of empathy in engaging with their community by creating and implementing a campaign to raise awareness about supporting local businesses. This updated take on traditional social studies projects emphasizes understanding local business owners' stories, challenges, and successes. Students will explore needs vs. wants, goods, and services, earning money, and making economic choices. They will share their findings and experiences through a local business showcase event, promoting empathy and responsible consumer behavior.
